She’s not just the star of the Spider-Man franchise. Kirsten Dunst is one of the most enduring talents of Hollywood who’s been capturing the hearts of her audiences for decades now. And without a doubt, it can also be said that she is quite beautiful. Only it’s no secret that she, like many others, has felt the pressure to conform to certain beauty standards (which can be particularly high in the industry she’s in!).
One of her features that has been at the receiving end of such scrutiny is her smile, which normally one would find it hard to see a fault with. Yet, from her mother to a Spider-Man producer, Kirsten Dunst’s teeth have been subject to criticism. So, did the actress do anything to “fix” her chompers? Let’s find out!
Who Is Kirsten Dunst?
Born on 30 April 1982, Kirsten Caroline Dunst is an American film and TV actress who is widely known for playing the role of Mary Jane (MJ) in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. However, before she gained international fame from the movies, Kirsten had made her acting debut at the age of just 6 in Oedipus Wrecks.
From thereon, things went uphill for the actress, and she got her break at the age of 11 alongside Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire. The same year, she was a part of another Hollywood classic – Little Women, in which she played the young Amy March.
Kirsten’s career has since spanned over two decades, with one of her more recent releases – The Power of Dog – even earning her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars. After taking a two-year hiatus, Kirsten made her comeback in 2024 as a war photographer in the film Civil War.
Did Kirsten Dunst Get Her Teeth “Fixed”?
Kirsten Dunst did not get any cosmetic dental work done despite being pressured to get her teeth fixed. Recounting an incident from her Spider-Man days, the actress told the Independent in an interview that she was taken to a dentist to get her teeth fixed by one of the producers of the movie. She had not known that she was being taken to the dentist’s.
However, the actress thwarted the attempt: “I was like, ‘Mmmmm, no, I like my teeth’” – her confidence also boosted by the fact that Sofia Coppola had told Kirsten that she loved her teeth the way they were. “I love your teeth; don’t ever fix your teeth,” is what Sofia had said to Kirsten as she told in a 2017 interview with Variety.
And looking at her photos, Kirsten has had the same teeth throughout her entire career. Her lateral incisors are a bit more projected than her central teeth and have an almost fang-like appearance, but that hasn’t come in the way of Kirsten still having one of the most beautiful smiles.
Did Kirsten Dunst Get Braces?
Kirsten Dunst hasn’t actually gotten braces, but she did wear them as a prop for her role as Krystal Stubbs in On Becoming a God in Central Florida series.
“They’re like a retainer. You just clip them on and off,” she told Variety. However, she also described how the experience was rather gross. “Every time on set, I’d take them off and there’d be a line of saliva coming off. They’re kind of nauseating to wear, so I was just grossing everyone out”.
When Did Kirsten Dunst Fix Her Teeth?
Kirsten Dunst hasn’t gotten her teeth “fixed”. Her teeth looked straighter on the poster of Spider-Man because they were edited, as per the Independent interview, not because the actress had decided to take the route of veneers or dental crowns.
Even back in 2005, Kirsten refused to get dental treatment because the actress said, “That’s one of the things I like about me. Messed-up teeth are so sexy,” as reported in the Irish Examiner. This was despite news reporting that the actress’ mother was “constantly nagging her to straighten her front teeth”.
Conclusion
Kirsten Dunst’s teeth might not be “Hollywood” perfect, but they’re quite gorgeous and make her smile quite unique. As far as cosmetic treatments go, no one should feel pressured to change themselves in a way they don’t feel comfortable with (and it’s definitely not right to drive someone to a dentist’s!).
If you want to change something about your smile, then you should go for it. But no matter where you are, make sure that you find an experienced and board-certified dentist who understands your needs and prepares a treatment plan accordingly.
