Did Miley Cyrus Get Her Teeth Fixed?

Many of us are no strangers to the pop princess Miley Cyrus’ teeth. Before all the flower buying, wrecking ball swinging, twerking and tongue poses, many people knew her as the girl with the gummy smile.

Although, she wasn’t just any girl. She was Disney’s Hannah Montana. And starting from her first big gig (when she was just 13), she has pretty much been in the public eye since.

However, of course, over the decades, her looks have changed significantly. But because her smile was always so iconic and unique, many people have noted even the subtlest changes in it.

It’s widely speculated that Miley has some kind of dental work done to change how her teeth look. However, is there any truth to such claims? Let’s find out!

Who Is Miley Cyrus?

Daughter of Tish and Bill Ray Cyrus, Miley was born in Franklin, Tennessee. Interestingly, her original name wasn’t actually Miley.

In fact, it was Destiny Hope (she had it legally changed in 2008). However, because she was a really “smiley” kid, her dad started to call her “Smiley Miley,” and that’s how her new name came to be.

While the Flowers hitmaker gained massive popularity after her stint at Disney, before that, she also played small roles in Doc (that starred her father) and the movie Big Fish.

In 2006, she landed the lead role in Hannah Montana, in which she both acted and sang. Needless to say, the show was a big hit. Even those who hadn’t watched Hannah Montana knew who she was.

In the following years, the Wrecking Ball singer continued to act in different roles while releasing her albums. The latter garnered her much praise for her musical versatility.

More recently, her dance-pop number “Flowers” had social media “reeling.” A few months ago, she also dropped her new album “Endless Summer.”

How Old Is Miley Cyrus?

Born on November 23, 1992, Miley Cyrus turned 30 in 2022.

Keep in mind that she was just 13 when she starred in Hannah Montana. But she was actually younger than 10 in her earlier roles.

Miley Cyrus’ Teeth

Miley Cyrus’ teeth have always been one of her more notable facial features. When she’d just started working for Disney, her teeth were small, uneven, and quite gummy.

However, her teeth did become a subject of ridicule even when she was a teenager.

For instance, Jamie Foxx reportedly made a crude remark about the singer’s teeth back in 2009. He referred to her as “the one with all the gums,” even going as far as to say that she needed a “gum transplant.”

On the other hand, Miley herself (at least seemingly) had a more positive attitude about the whole ordeal.

In a 2009 interview with Parade, the actor said, “I like these [teeth] crooked. I love my teeth. My dad won’t let me fix my teeth or cut my hair. He loves it. He’s like, ‘It’s you!” And to be honest, it is (or was) her.

In the years that followed, Miley did not admit to getting any cosmetic work done, but her teeth continued to look different.

When Did Miley Cyrus’ Teeth Change?

Miley’s teeth changed subtly over the years. The first change was noted around 2007 when her teeth started to look less gummy. It was believed that she had gum contouring for that.

After that, the shape of her teeth remained more or less the same, but the shade kept changing. Of course, her teeth started to look brighter and whiter over the years – looking much less translucent than in her teenage years.

Then in around 2015, the alignment of her teeth started to look different as well. Growing up, Miley Cyrus’ front teeth were slightly crooked

The top left incisor overlapped the right one (slightly). But that changed in 2015, which is also when she got 5 of her wisdom teeth extracted (some people have an extra wisdom tooth).

However, the biggest change in her teeth was noted in 2022 when she appeared in The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. That’s when people noticed that her teeth looked much bigger. Some even remarked that it looked like she was having difficulty closing her mouth.

What Procedures Did Miley Cyrus Have On Her Teeth?

How did Miley Cyrus fix her teeth? While Miley hasn’t confirmed any of the dental treatments, it’s believed that she had the following:

Braces

Many people claim that Miley had “lingual” braces in her early Hannah Montana years. Because she was still the star of the show (and probably didn’t want to shoot with braces on), she decided to get more discreet braces.

Lingual braces are the ones that go on the back of the teeth, so they hide in plain sight.

This definitely would’ve helped her teeth look less crooked. However, it’s not exactly known how long she wore these braces. On average, people wear it for 2 years. So, they would have been removed sometime in 2009 or 2010.

Veneers

Some say that Miley Cyrus’ teeth veneers were fitted right after her braces were removed. However, there are others who say that she never had braces and that it was all veneers from the start.

However, in 2015, (when Miley had her wisdom teeth extracted), she posted an X-ray of her teeth. And TMZ had a dental assistant review it, who looked at it and said that all of Miley’s front teeth are actually veneers.

However, if you look closely, Miley’s teeth still look a bit uneven here. Additionally, her left incisor is still bigger than her right one and crooked as well. It looks most like she had veneers later, in 2022.

Teeth Whitening

Looking at Miley’s teeth over the years, they have gotten whiter and whiter. And sure brushing helps, but even that can’t whiten your teeth like the hydrogen peroxide used in teeth whitening treatments

Keep in mind that veneers don’t require whitening. But for the longest time, it didn’t look like she had veneers, so she probably stuck with teeth whitening.

Gum Contouring

Miley Cyrus’ gummy smile always stood out. While some people find it cute, not everyone is comfortable with it. In Miley’s case, it appears to be the latter.

While the shape of Miley Cyrus’ old teeth didn’t change much (until recently), her gums definitely kept receding (in a deliberate way).

And it’s quite likely that she surgically had the gum tissue removed in a procedure called gum contouring

Miley Cyrus’ Teeth Before And After

Just like Miley, her teeth have come a long way since. To get a clearer look, here’s a before and after for you to look at:

Notice how Miley Cyrus’ new teeth look much straighter and even? That can happen once you get cosmetic restorations. It’s possible that Miley Cyrus’ teeth implants crowns or veneers are the reason behind her new smile.

Miley Cyrus’ bottom teeth also look longer and more even than before. So, she may have had new veneers/crowns on her bottom teeth as well.

Conclusion

Miley’s a global star, and because of the distinctive appearance of her teeth, they were bound to get some traction (it’s definitely more than “some”).

Looking at her before and after photos, it seems quite likely that she had some dental work done. Her teeth are much straighter and whiter now, and her gums aren’t that visible, either. In any case, Miley Cyrus’ plastic surgery for her teeth looks quite good.
